On June 3rd at 3PM Eastern, our celebration will officially kick off with a keynote presentation featuring former NASA Astronaut Mike Massimino, now an engineering professor at Columbia University. Space is limited (no pun intended) so we will send you a special invitation to register for the event on Monday, May 3rd. Click here to register for this free event - and bring a friend! Please share with everyone you know in the non-bargaining unit - all are welcome.

PMA's 40th birthday is less than three months away! As we move through the month, you'll start to see some changes to our website and newsletters. We will invite you to visit our new site and create an account to access new content, new benefits, and a new legislative action center which will empower you to join PMA in our advocacy. To prepare for our email server changeover, please add our @promanager.org email domain to your Outlook Safe Senders list so that our messages don't end up in your junk/spam folder. Please find instructions attached to help you add PMA to your list.

Public Service Recognition Week

We hope you had a wonderful week! We heard from the White House, the House and Senate, the Secretary, the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioners, and sixty-three agency leaders, including all Cabinet agency heads to celebrate and thank you for your dedication and sacrifice in the Civil Service. This week, we want to thank each and every public servant for the commitment, leadership, and endurance you bring to work every day. Our PMA members worked tirelessly this year to keep workers and taxpayers safe, deliver much needed economic relief to citizens and small businesses alike, and to administer the Internal Revenue Service's most complex and technically challenging filing season in its history.

We would like to recognize and express our gratitude to the IRS COVID Response Team and especially Kevin McIver, Robin Bailey, Keith Walker, Carrolyn Bostick, David Abercrombie, David Marquez, Christina Ballance, Scott Delaney, Brinda Dent, Dana Davis, Richard Rodriguez, Gary Lombardi, and so many others for their partnership and collective efforts in developing and implementing new workplace safety standards and workforce flexibilities which allowed the IRS to complete its mission virtually while providing our members and their staff with important work-life balance throughout the pandemic. We are also thankful for our friends at the Federal Managers Association, Kathy Herr and Mark Butera, for working together with us to enhance the IRS for our members and for the taxpayers we serve. As our members often say, we fund freedom. It's an honor for us to advocate on behalf of dedicated public servants.

PMA's official charity, the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA) is celebrating #PSRW and its 35th anniversary. The Feds In Motion 35 Challenge kicked off this week alongside Public Service Recognition Week and is all about moving in your favorite way — walk, run, bike, swim, or roll on your favorite route — to reach the goal of 35 miles (or more!) in 35 days. Click here to register for the celebration. All are welcome on #TeamPMA and thank you to all who've joined the team so far! Our team moved 121.4 miles in just a week!

News From Washington

The IRS Economic Impact Payment team was nominated for a Sammie Award! The Sammies are often considered the Oscars of government service. You can vote daily to be sure Virginia Busby, Dianne Garibotto, Camille Privett, and the team win this incredible honor.

Six new academic agreements with OPM offer reduced tuition rates to Federal workers. American University Key Executive Leadership Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Bellevue University, Columbia College, Georgetown University Biomedical Graduate Education, University of Louisville, and Michigan State University’s College of Business are now part of OPM’s continued effort to address critical skills gaps in mission critical occupations, increase Federal employees’ access to high-quality, affordable educational resources, and further develop and retain the Federal workforce. For more information about the programs, admissions, and contact information for each school visit the Federal Academic Alliance. PMA members are eligible for one of 10 $2,000 scholarships annually toward post-secondary education and we also offer quarterly grants to our members to help defray the cost of ongoing professional development.

News at the IRS

Five former IRS Commissioners - Lawrence Gibbs, Fred Goldberg, Margaret Richardson, Charles Rossotti and John Koskinen - jointly wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in support of the Biden administration's proposal to increase IRS funding and close the tax gap as part of the American Families Plan. Former Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel gave an interview to moderate congressional expectations - something PMA has been working on behind the scenes as well. PMA is in contact with House Appropriations, House Oversight, and the Senate Finance Committee to be sure this funding becomes law and to be sure the Congress understands that the IRS will need time to deliver results on this historic investment.

The Philadelphia Payroll Center is currently unable to process Professional Liability Insurance Reimbursements via the US Mail. If you submitted your request via mail and haven't received the reimbursement, please fax your form to 855-207-0460 or e-mail your form to Philly Payroll.

The Executive Readiness (XR) program announcement will be up from May 31-June 14 this year. To prepare for that process, click here to learn more about the program and the ECQs candidates need to prepare.

PMA@40 - Join Us Now

This summer, PMA will celebrate our 40th anniversary as the only association advocating exclusively on behalf of IRS managers, management officials, other non-bargaining workers, leadership development program participants, and retirees from those roles. Through our long relationship with the IRS, we’ve worked to identify problems and recommend solutions around many complex workforce issues such as performance pay, leave, professional liability, and safety, to name only a few. We are working diligently to strengthen the IRS and enhance management through our relationships in Congress - at times even sharing our members' individual stories to fortify congressional understanding of our working conditions. We do all of this and more for only $3.50 per pay period – an incredible value.

If you're reading this and you're not yet a member, use the attached form to join us today and you'll be a member just in time for our anniversary celebration and relaunch! If you know a retiree who would benefit from our advocacy, we offer lifetime memberships to them for a one-time $100 payment. Membership also comes with many additional benefits such as discounted rates from our sponsors GEICO and FEDS Protection. PMA members participating in a FEHB plan may be able to get free, state-of-the-art hearing aids through our partner Eargo. Just mention PMA and they will waive your copay for most health plans. This benefit is available to anyone in your family using your FEHB plan.

Don't forget to follow PMA on social media. You can forward this email to your personal address to check out our Facebook and Twitter channels. Our Instagram and LinkedIn channels are coming soon

Help PMA Form a Local Chapter

PMA’s National Board is looking for members throughout the country who are willing to consider serving as chapter president. If you're in Colorado or Georgia, please reach out today! We’re also always happy to hear from members who’d like to found a local chapter in their area. Local chapters are active around the country and work with local executives, FEBs, and GLCs to promote the interests of management. Chapter presidents also attend national calls quarterly with the National Board as members of our Association Leadership Committee. The Committee will participate in PMA's modernization project, which is already underway. The time commitment is minimal and it’s a great way to improve conditions in your office. If you or someone you know is interested, please reply to our newsletter and we will connect you with resources to get started.
